About This Content Following the success of the incredible Albula Line, Thomson Interactive brings to life the scenic and vital Arosa Line for Train Simulator. Including even more nail-biting grades, a whole new set of unique challenges and a fresh, stunning perspective of the Alpine landscape. This 25-km long line, which winds its way from Chur, the oldest town in Switzerland, all the way to Arosa, a Summer and Winter tourist resort, opened in December 1914 to both passengers and freight. Surprisingly, the distance between the two towns is less than 14 km, the route however gained its length from a multitude of hairpin turns which helped it climb over the 1,100m that separates the two communities. Not only hairpins, but the Arosa Line (originally known as the Chur-Arosa-Bahn) features many tunnels and viaducts, including the Langwieser Viaduct, a pioneering reinforced concrete structure that spans the Plessur River with the single-track Arosa Line atop. The site today is of national significance, and in the winter months, Christmas lights are hung from the viaduct so it can be seen for miles after dusk. Given all the twists, turns and structures, it takes about an hour to traverse this breath-taking line. While a standard route nonetheless, the approach, and of course departure from Chur is most unique. Over 2km of the track outside Chur’s main station runs through the streets of the town itself, this is known as the Chur stadtbahn (town railway), and requires extra vigilance as you share track with road traffic and pedestrians. With Arosa being a tourist resort all year round, the line sees a lot of passenger traffic, but a significant amount of freight is also transported between the two towns. Mixed trains are a common occurrence on the Swiss railway network, so having to haul a little extra load is to be expected. Uniquely, it is not just locomotives that do the hauling, the local electric multiple units will also carry extra passenger coaches, as well as freight, along this incredible railway. The latest EMU to be put to work along the Arosa Line is the RhB ABe 8/12 Allegra, this 3-car unit was introduced in 2009 and is designed to handle the steepest grades of the RhB railway network, such as those found between Chur and Arosa. The Allegra offers unmatched views for first class passengers, where windows can provide a driver’s eye view of the mountains, and is easily accessible with a low floored centre coach. Not only does the Allegra perform as expected, it exceeded all measures in December 2009 when a not-in-service unit set a new metre gauge speed record, clocking in at 139 km/h. A total of 15 Allegra ABe 8/12’s operate in Switzerland, and all of them are named after famed Swiss men, including Friedrich Hennings, chairman of construction for the Albula Line, and Willem Jan Holsboer, a founder of the Rhaetian Railway (RhB).Thomson Interactive has designed the new Allegra to be compatible with their dynamic pantograph height feature developed for the Albula Line and adopted for the Arosa Line. Cab features include pantograph selection, passenger information display control, traction speed control and a whole host of other dynamic features. All of this, and more, is yours to experience in Thomson Interactive’s beautiful Arosa Line!ScenariosThe Arosa Line Route Add-on includes seven challenging career scenarios for the route:[ABe 8/12 RhB] Allegra Tutorial[ABe 8/12 RhB] Langwieser Viaduct Illuminations[ABe 8/12 RhB] Arosa Autumn Ascent[ABe 8/12 RhB] Arosa Winter Wonderland[ABe 8/12 RhB] Chur Christmas Descent[ABe 8/12 RhB] Early Morning Timber Collection[ABe 8/12 RhB] Arosa Aggregate DutiesThe Arosa Line Route Add-On also includes three Railfan Mode scenarios:Railfan Mode:Arosa Aggregate TerminalChur StadtLangwies StationMore scenarios are available on Steam Workshop online and in-game. There's one caveat I have to make right away: this route is extremely slow (35km\/h top speed) and has fairly simple operations. I don't really enjoy that. Still have to give it a positive review because the quality of it all is top-notch. It looks good, the signal system is well-adapted, including some interesting quirks of this operator\/route, just like you'd expect from this studio, and the Allegra is also a well-crafted vehicle (including a semi-operable passenger information system).. All in all DLC looks great, Stadler Allegra is much better than the vehicles in Albula Line. Though it will be better to build a bigger network than selling it in smaller pieces for higher price.. Bought it right after release. To begin with: I'm normally more into north american freight operations or freight trains on german lines, however after really enjoying the previous product (Albula Line) I was curious to get this route.Even though the route is small (25 km lenght) it takes an hour to drive and the landscape is just amazing. The developers really managed to capture the impressive sight of the alps with the train track against the slope of the mountains. The level of details is stunning as well, there are so many custom made buildings, small villages etc. It looks really really nice and makes you feel like you're traversing that region. That's the level of detail I'd expect from a good old model railway at home.Driving the route is fun as well, the train handles well and the signaling system does its job. Nothing too complex and even downhill the trains are manageable. Soundwise I'm also very happy, especially the "singing" of the train when going through curves.Any cons? yes! Unfortunately the world seems dead. Despite some people waiting at the train stations there's no life. Especially at the beginning of the route, there's a section taking you through the city of Chur. There are only static cars\/busses, nothing moving, no pedestrians etc. Later on during your ascend, you get to some crossings with no cars moving along the road. At one crossing there's a tractor waiting for you to pass, but the driver seems to be very patient as he sits there no matter if its summer or winter, day or night. Other routes (sacramento nothern) manage to have cars on the road during street running scenarios and the cars even obey the crossings \/ traffic signs. That's something defenity lacking on this route! Also there are some places you drive by, for example a farm house thats on one side of the track with no way whatsoever to reach it. No road leading up to it, nothing, just a house sorrounded by trees and cornered in by tracks. In general the route is amazingly detailed, fun to drive and I would recommend it to anynone looking for a change, something new. If you liked the Albula-Line, then this route will satisfy you as well! How long will the fun last? As the possibilities on this route are very limited (limited freight hauling, no different locomotives \/ rolling stock) I doubt this route will keep me occupied for long.. Nice route, smart control system, runs very well on my system which struggles with some other denser routes, yet still looks pretty. Single "train" is a bit limited, however realistic, with a small selection of freight cars. different weather also looks fantastic. Thomson interactive have done it again!. A beatiful and stunning Swiss narrow gauge route. Fun and challenging to drive, twists and turns and a lot of beatiful scenery. The EMU Allegra ABe 8\/12 is very well depicted with a stunning interior and passenger view. The train succeeds in climbing more than 1000 metres in just 26 kilometres \u2013 something that not even a mountain goat can manage!A route I can recommend for everyone.. It's a nice but short route with a good looking train and kind of unique operations (freight operations using an EMU). It's a single track branch line, which, after leaving the starting point at Chur, constantly climbs steep grades up to Arosa. Be aware that the maximum speed of the line is 35 km\/h. Most of the time, your train will be running at slower speeds (33 km\/h, 30 km\/h and in the city of Chur 20 km\/h), though. So if you like fast train operations, this route might be disappointing. It comes with a unique signalling system, which is pretty easy once you get the hang of it (just look into the manual, all is explained very well). The city of Chur, where your train is running literally on the streets of the town, is quite detailed, although I found the scenarios to be a bit lifeless. Some more people on the streets would help to make it feel much more alive (you can do it for yourself in the editor of course). They advertize all the bridge and tunnel models they have done for this route and indeed, it helps quite a lot to make it look special in a lot of places. The tracks look pretty good, unfortunately the winter version is a bit, well, snowless... Feels a bit like the track was laied after the snow has fallen. I found this to be much better at the Semmering Bahn for example, where the sleepers are actually covered with snow. The train itself is done in a quite solid way. You can choose between several preset destinations in the cab, which will be displayed at the outside of the train then (they also include destinations from the Albula line and some other lines of the RhB). Unfortunately the wiper only comes in ON or OFF positions, so no occasionally wiping. There are some windows in the cab which can be opened and the sun visor can be lowered. You have several different options to set your front and rear lights, including the single light for shunting services. The request stop feature works well, but to be honest, it's nothing too special. It would have been cool, if Thomson Interactive would have made a train announcement system similiar to their Trent Valley line. I haven't experienced the real train yet, but I like the sounds it makes in the game. Compared to some youtube videos, it seems quite accurately done.. Wonderful. Absolutely superb. I only hope that in the future, more historic equipment may become available for these lines. Some older 4\/6 and 6\/6 motive power would be incredibly fun to drive.. I recommend this train
